YEAR 2000 CONTINGENCY AND BUSINESS RESUMPTION PLANNING WORKSHOP -Y2KWS

THE DIRE NEED FOR A Y2K CONTINGENCY PLAN

Despite diligent Year-2000 remediation programs, all the problems derived from the Year 2000 will NOT be resolved for at least these reasons:

Your organization must expect Year 2000 disruptions and outages and must be prepared with a cost-effective contingency and recovery plan for the Year 2000.

The Year 2000 is just around the corner and 1999 is the last chance to prepare your contingency plan to address the problems that remediation cannot solve.  Furthermore, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in their Auguts 4, 1998 pronouncement mandates that companies have a viable Y2K Contingency Plan.

Year 2000 contingency planning is vastly different from conventional (fire,water, earthquake) contingency planning.  There is no time to waste with general admonitions from general Y2K conferences that devote at most one hour to discussions on Y2K contingency planning.  You need practical "how-to-do-it" information to cut calendar months from the development time.

Why reinvent the wheel? Our unique workshop provides you all the necessary practical methodology to develop an effective Y2K Contingency Plan

OBJECTIVES AND BENEFITS

This unique 2-day workshop provides and applies the principles and methodologies for preparing effective and detailed Y2K contingency plans. It will provide you with hands-on experience that will enable you to prepare your company-specific contingency plan for Year 2000 to ameliorate losses from the Year 2000 threats.

The workshop materials include a practical how-to-do-it template to assist persons without previous experience in contingency planning to prepare their own specific business unit Y2K contingency plans

At the completion of the workshop, you will learn:

  1. How to identify Year 2000 specific threats;
  2. Develop risk and exposure scenarios;
  3. Document and prioritize the threats that are most critical and worthy of attention; and
  4. Actually prepare contingency and business resumption plan examples that can be used as a basis to develop your company-specific contingency plans upon returning to the office.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

Anyone who has responsibility for leading, developing, implementing, reviewing or consulting on Y2K contingency planning and risk management. (Managers, Y2K Project Directors, auditors, contingency planners, internal and external consultants, risk/protection/insurance managers, users from all functional units who must prepare their own section of the multifaceted Y2K plans).

WORKSHOP OUTLINE

1. EXPLANATION OF YEAR 2000 CONTINGENCY PLANNING FOUNDATION      (Intended for those who did not attend the previous day's CS-6 principles and methodologies course)

2. ORGANIZATION INTO WORK TEAMS

3. SELECTION OF RISK MANAGEMENT AREAS TO BE ANALYZED. Teams select the risk areas they wish to work on.

4. WORK SESSION ON Y2K RISK MANAGEMENT (Threat identification, business impact analysis, time-window of vulnerability, key scenario development, prioritizing areas of protection, deciding on key areas for which contingency plans should be developed).

5. Part 2. WORKSHOP ON CONTINGENCY PLAN CONTENTS PREPARATION. Working with the same teams, the afternoon session will prepare personnel to actually write a section of a contingency plan for one or two of the Y2K risk areas selected in the morning.

The team will produce and document a model of the section of the plan that they worked on.

6. CLOSING SESSION. This involves summarizing what was done and allowing participants to share ideas and clarify remaining questions.

WORKSHOP FEE: $1,450.

The workshop fee includes class notes and a copy of our proprietary and restricted circulation manual: "Year 2000 Contingency Planning - What If Your Remediation Program Is Not Foolproof?". (included at a highly discounted price of only $200 - The normal price is $360 - See publication CP-6 under Year 2000 Programs entry for contents)

The supplementary manual, which is required of all participants, enables us to cover three-days of material in the first day of the workshop and is an excellent reference source when preparing actual contingency plans.
